This year, the Foundation is holding two rounds of Investment Grants.

The deadline to apply to our first round is on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

About Investment Grants

The Foundation’s Investment Grant program supports and advances education, research, law reform, and other activities related to real estate across our three focus areas of Real Estate Leadership, Built Environment, and Land.

This funding pathway is for initiatives seeking over $25,000 and up to $250,000.

Eligibility

Investment Grants are open to real estate industry organizations, post-secondary institutions, nonprofits, charities, and local and regional governments.

Mandate and Focus Areas

Under the Real Estate Act, the Foundation’s mandate is to promote and undertake:

  • the education of related professionals and the public in respect of the real estate industry,
  • law reform and research in respect of the real estate industry, and
  • other projects and activities to advance and improve the real estate industry.

Our grantmaking contributes to positive impacts across the Focus Areas of:

  • Real Estate Leadership
  • Built Environment
  • Land

Under each Focus Area, you will find outcome statements that help guide our grantmaking. The outcome statements reflect our responsibility to our mandate, and to what we hear is needed in the industry from you, our stakeholders.

How to apply

The first step is to submit a Letter of Inquiry to inquiries@aref.ab.ca.

We strongly recommend you submit your Letter of Inquiry at least three weeks in advance of the deadline on April 18. That means, please send us your Letter of Inquiry on or before March 28 – now extended to April 4!

Our Grants Team will review your Letter of Inquiry and contact you to set up a meeting to discuss your initiative. If your project meets the Foundation’s criteria, we will invite you to complete a full application for evaluation.

Decision-making

Once you are invited to complete a full application, it will go under a staff review and a blind peer review from our Governors. Applicants will have the opportunity to provide additional information or answer any questions that come up. Applications will be evaluated using our Evaluation Tool.

Then, at our upcoming Board meeting on June 13, the Governors will determine the recipients of the Investment Grants. All applicants will be notified of the decisions, and will have the opportunity to connect with the Grants Team for feedback.

Have questions or need clarification?

Please reach out! Our Grants Team looks forward to connecting with and assisting you. Email inquiries@aref.ab.ca.
